How to add an email signature on iPhone
The iPhone's Mail app has its own signature setting, separate from whatever you configured on your computer — which is why phone-sent emails often end with the default "Sent from my iPhone". Here's how to replace it, per account, and what to know about images.

The iPhone signature: small setting, big impression
Every email your iPhone sends ends with whatever sits in one small settings field — and for most people that's still the factory default "Sent from my iPhone". Replacing it takes under a minute, and it's one of the quickest professionalism upgrades available: the difference between a dangling advertisement for Apple and a proper sign-off with your name and contact details.
The important mental model: every mail app on your phone has its own signature. iOS Mail reads Settings → Mail → Signature; the Gmail app has its own inside Gmail's settings; Outlook mobile has another. Configure the one you actually send from — or both, if you switch between apps.
iOS Mail's signature field is deliberately simple: it's designed for text. Rich content gets in through a side door — the field accepts pasted formatted content, including images — which mostly works but renders differently across receiving clients. The safe pattern is a clean text signature on the phone and the full image signature on desktop, where the tooling is designed for it.
Step by step
Open the signature setting
Go to Settings → Mail, scroll to the Composing section, and tap Signature. (On iOS 18+, it's Settings → Apps → Mail → Signature.)
Choose per-account or all accounts
If you have multiple email accounts, tap Per Account to give each its own signature — a work signature for the office account, a plain one for personal mail.
Type your signature
Replace "Sent from my iPhone" with your name, title, and contact details. Keep it short — phone signatures read best at 2–4 lines.
Add an image (workaround)
iOS Mail's signature field officially supports text, but it accepts pasted images: copy your signature image from a web page or note, then paste it into the signature field. Rendering varies by recipient's mail client, so test it on yourself first.
Send a test email
Compose a new message — the signature appears automatically at the bottom. Send it to yourself to confirm formatting survives.
Troubleshooting
Signature reverted to 'Sent from my iPhone'
This usually follows an iOS restore or adding a new mail account — new accounts get the default. Re-check Settings → Mail → Signature, especially the Per Account view.
Pasted image shows on my end but not for recipients
Some receiving clients strip pasted inline images from iOS Mail. There's no reliable fix within iOS — either accept text-only from the phone or send image-signed mail from desktop/webmail.
Formatting pastes but looks inconsistent
iOS preserves pasted styling loosely. After pasting, select the text and use the format bar (Aa) to normalize the font; shorter signatures survive best.
Signature not appearing in the Gmail or Outlook app
Those apps ignore iOS settings entirely. Set the signature inside each app: Gmail → Settings → account → Mobile signature; Outlook → Settings → account → Signature.
Best practices
- Keep the phone signature to 2–4 lines — long signatures dominate short replies, and most phone email is short replies.
- Per Account signatures let your work address stay formal while personal mail stays plain.
- Skip images in the phone signature unless you've tested them with your main recipients; text renders identically everywhere.
- Write the signature in Notes first if it's multi-line — the Settings field is small and fiddly for editing.
Common questions
Why does my iPhone still say "Sent from my iPhone"?
That's the default signature text. It stays until you replace it in Settings → Mail → Signature — deleting it there removes it from every new message.
Will my Gmail app signature and iPhone Mail signature match?
They're separate settings. The Gmail app has its own Mobile signature setting inside the app; iOS Mail uses Settings → Mail. If you use both apps, set both.
Can I use bold text or links in the iPhone signature?
The field is mostly plain-text, but pasted rich text often keeps its formatting. Compose the styled version elsewhere (Notes or a web editor), copy it, then paste into the signature field.
How do I add my signature to a document (not an email) on iPhone?
